As former editor of the home page in Real simple magazine, I came across my share of local produce. Cleaning was one of my beats, so I was always testing out the latest updated mop or cleaning brush. (What can I say, it was an act of magic.) Now that I’m a mom of two adorable but ridiculously messy kids, I’ve really used these cleaning products. I definitely have my favourites—the ones I reach for whenever soy sauce finds its way on the walls or cookie crumbs invade the crevices of my keyboard (which sadly happens more than I’ll admit). So as someone who is well versed in organizing, I decided to share my top nine products with you. Some are the best basics – like this one Microwave cleaner — while others are great new inventions, like A Small power tool for stucco which looks like an electric toothbrush. To say it is satisfying is an understatement. Put some in your cart and clean up!
This might be one of my all-time favorite inventions: BPA-free silicone gloves that you can use to move hot pots and pans, as well as maneuver around the grill. Here’s the genius part: They’re completely waterproof, so if you accidentally dunk your feet in some hot soup, the gloves won’t absorb them.
When I moved into my rental apartment, the grout around my bathtub was, shall we say, grout. This tool makes light work of scum. Use it on everything from faucets and grills to sliding door tracks – you won’t want to put it aside.
This tool uses steam to loosen all the baked-on dirt. Simply rip the hair off, fill it with water and vinegar, and watch Angry Mama get really angry as she blows hot steam all over the inside. Then wipe with a damp cloth. It’s incredibly fun to use!
I can’t get enough of this microfiber blade cleaner. I use it on my blinds and air conditioner fins – which gets especially bad since I live in a city. Just splash a little water and go nuts.
If I give my kids just straws in their stockings for Christmas, they’ll be happy. Now that reusable straws are a must-have in every home, these silicone wonders (and the cleaning tool that comes with them) are sure to get plenty of use.
I don’t like how traditional steel wool scrubbers seem to leave behind steely residue. Then i found this medieval looking cleanser and have never looked back. It’s gentle enough for cast iron pans, but it won’t scratch. And luckily it hangs on a hook.
I eat eggs every morning, and I’m messy. Prior to these great tools, i would grab a paper towel to clean off egg residue before using a scrub brush. These scrapers are handy and can also be used to remove labels from new glassware and plates.
I eat on my keyboard. The retractable scrubber makes me feel like a detective working on a top secret case. Take it out and brush the crumbs in between those keys, then use the silicone side to pick up any rough. Great for detailing watches, cameras and cell phones too.
Do my kids walk on planks? They got so dirty that I think they do sometimes. That’s why the Baseboard Buddy is my friend – it takes both low boards and high boards. The head rotates to get into corners and can be used dry for dusting or wet for deep cleaning.
