Tiffany Haddish had never been a sci-fi blockbuster before she became a new indie film Landscape with an invisible hand. But maybe she was already living in one.
“I kind of believe in aliens,” Haddish told Yahoo Entertainment in a new interview. “I’m sure I work with some. But I believe in them. … They’re in Hollywood and New York and Alabama and Atlanta. All of Georgia … especially in Peachtree, Ga. I think that’s really where they are. Texas. They’re all over the place.” place.
“I think they mate with us, too. I think they mate with humans. And that’s why some of these kids are so tall. You know, 10, 5-foot-6. It’s like, come on, you’re 10.”
Whatever the jest, Haddish’s comments, for the record, did happen before July’s widely watched congressional hearings about UAPs and UFOs sparked a social media buzz and left many witnessing testimony As evidence of the existence of aliens. (Our interview was also conducted prior to the ongoing Hollywood actors’ strike.)
Written and directed by Cory Finley (genuine) and based on MT Anderson’s 2017 novel of the same name, Aesthetic view It follows a teenage artist (Asante Blackk) in the not-too-distant future of 2037. An extraterrestrial race known as the Vuvv has taken over Earth and its financial and technological systems, leaving most of humanity in poverty. Haddish plays Black’s mother, an unemployed lawyer who is forced to marry Vuvv because of her son’s crimes.
“It’s the first time I’ve slept with an alien,” she cracked. “And the first time I take a remote control from an alien. But maybe I’ve done it before and I didn’t know it.”
Aesthetic viewwhich reached acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival in January, isn’t the 43-year-old’s first drama, but it continues a career turnaround for the prolific artist best known for stand-up work and comedy projects like Girls tripAnd post OGAnd the other party And last month Haunted Palace. Haddish refers to the 2019 mob drama the kitchen And her drama 2021 here today along with Billy Crystal as proof that she can’t be a dove.
“The industry has been very welcoming,” she says. “I’ve done some movies where I’m dramatic. … If I pay attention to my body of work, I don’t always do the same thing, that’s for sure. You know, I just show different layers of Tiffany Haddish, and there are a lot of different layers to me.”
One of the hardest working women in entertainment, Haddish has also expanded into the world of production, serving as an executive producer on Aesthetic view Along with another bold name, Brad Pitt, whose Plan B Productions productions helped make the movie.
Haddish was unable to work directly with Pitt, which disappointed her. “He loved the script just as much as I loved the script. He put his company and his team together and they did an amazing job. We worked very well together but you know, maybe Brad and I are going to have another one together.”
When asked what she hasn’t done yet in Hollywood that she would like to do, Haddish replied, “Run really fast in front of the spandex camera.”
In other words, a superhero?
“Or a track star,” she muses. (Hadidish is set to play Olympic track star Florence Griffith-Joyner in a biopic.)
And there’s one superheroine in particular that Haddish has set her sights on playing: Mystery Girl, based on the Dark Horse Comics version of the same name.
“It’s about this black woman who can see all the things I’ve done, and she knows what she’s going to do,” Haddish explains. It can also receive information from the Internet and other things. She loves wireless so she knows what’s up.”
Haddish made the fictional role sound like a wish in Interview Us, but the project did It has already been announcedco-starring with and McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation) directive for Netflix. the mysterious girl The announcement came in early 2021, so it’s possible the project may have hit a bump or two during development.
Maybe Haddish needs one of her fellow Hollywood aliens to step in and get behind it.
