Taylor Swift has grown into one of the biggest stars on the planet — and a new course at Arizona State University looks at what psychologists can learn from her career.
Session, called Taylor Swift’s Psychology – Advanced Topics in Social Psychology, to be presented this fall and will be taught by doctoral student Alexandra Wormley. She said, “The course basically uses Taylor Swift as a semester-long example of different phenomena — gossip, relationships, revenge.” Arizona State University news site, Emphasize that “a class is not a seminar about how we like it or not – we want to be able to learn about psychology.”

She added that she would connect themes from Swift’s various albums with psychology, giving 2017 reputation as an example. Taylor’s Sixth Album, reputation, is her comeback after disappearing from the spotlight due to conflicts with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. She made it clear that she was getting her revenge on them – and on the broader media landscape – by dropping an incredibly successful album with a stadium tour. “Students know this — but do they know why we love revenge? Do they know how we take revenge? Social psychology can tell us.”
Swift has been increasingly a subject of study at many universities across the country. In February 2022, New York University Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music She launched the first ever class on the superstar she teaches Rolling Stone Author Brittany Spanos. Last August, A.J University of Texas at Austin Rolling out a new liberal arts course, Literary Competitions and Contexts – Taylor Swift’s Songwriters, in which the singer-songwriter’s work is studied alongside the likes of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Wyatt, Coleridge, Keats, Dickinson and Plath with “required texts” including four from her most recent albums.
Recently, Stanford announce winter course,All Too Good (10 week release)‘, which promises an ‘in-depth analysis’ of the emotional No. 1 ballad taught by alum Nona Hungate.
